Softball Recap: Mt. Gilead Gets the Win

While Mt. Gilead's victory against Mansfield Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Indians had just enough and edged out the Flames 6-5 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Flames: they've now won three in a row.

Savannah Wilt made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Wilt wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trinity Schrote, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. That run marked the first that Schrote scored this season.

Mt. Gilead's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Mansfield Christian, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mt. Gilead beat the Flames by a score of 18-2 later that day.
