Preview: Community Christian Cyclones vs. Ahoskie Christian
The Community Christian Cyclones will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Ahoskie Christian at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Community Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Even though Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf scored an imposing 55 points on Monday, Community Christian still came out on top. Community Christian strolled past Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf with points to spare, taking the game 73-55. Given Community Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf is ranked 353rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Community Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jared Kovach out in front who scored 12 points along with 8 assists and 8 rebounds. The matchup was Kovach's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Evan Gattis, who scored 18 points.
Meanwhile, Ahoskie Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 44-37 victory over Bethel Assembly Christian Academy.
Community Christian's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Ahoskie Christian, they pushed their record up to 6-7 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Community Christian against Ahoskie Christian in their previous matchup back in December of 2021 as the team secured a 89-55 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Ahoskie Christian's Colin Daughtrey, who scored 12 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Community Christian to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
