Football Recap: Columbia Central Piles Up the Points Against Vandercook Lake

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbia Central). They breezed past the Vandercook Lake Jayhawks to the tune of 60-13 on Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Golden Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Julian Boardman and Bauston Pilaczynski. Boardman rushed for 100 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries while Pilaczynski rushed for 134 yards and one score on only seven carries. That's the most rushing yards Pilaczynski has posted since back in September of 2024.

One reason for the win was Columbia Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Cyler Neelis was the leader with two. He also made five total tackles, which is notable because Columbia Central is 2-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 1-2 otherwise.

Columbia Central is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Vandercook Lake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Columbia Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 27-26 win against Jonesville on the 10th. As for Vandercook Lake, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 56-7 defeat against Hanover-Horton on the 10th.
