Softball Game Preview: Ballard Bruins vs. Male Bulldogs

The Ballard Bruins will venture away from home to face off against the Male Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Ballard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Ballard's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Pleasure Ridge Park. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ballard let Aubrie Newton and Matilda Gorley run wild. Newton scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Gorley scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Gorley a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Emery Schuster, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Ballard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pleasure Ridge Park only posted a batting average of .125.

Meanwhile, Male faced Greenup County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Musketeers by a score of 4-3. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Josslyn Woosley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Lily Jones was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

Male's defeat dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Ballard, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1.

Ballard skirted past Male 8-7 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
