Softball Recap: Somerset Academy South Homestead Extends Winning Streak to Six

Somerset Academy South Homestead entered their tilt with Archbishop Carroll on Tuesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Bulldogs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-7 back in March.

Casey Hodges was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Hodges was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.

In other batting news, Brianna Vasallo was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Mia Santiago was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Somerset Academy South Homestead pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Archbishop Carroll, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coincidentally, Somerset Academy South Homestead and Archbishop Carroll will both be playing Gulliver Prep the next time they take the field. The Hurricanes will host the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Bulldogs will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
