Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Kossuth

Kossuth waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Ripley Tigers a 9-0 shutout. With that victory, the Aggies brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Chloe Clement made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caliann Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Hallie Kate Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Kossuth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Kossuth's record is now 5-1. As for Ripley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Kossuth will host Walnut at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ripley, they will take on Itawamba Agricultural at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 0.1 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
