Softball Recap: West Orange-Stark Triumphs

While West Orange-Stark didn't have the best season last year (they finished 0-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Beaumont United Timberwolves by a score of 9-4 on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-4 back in January.

Kyla Blagburn made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mallory Mims, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was KK Bell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

West Orange-Stark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

West Orange-Stark's win bumped their record up to 9-2-1. As for Beaumont United, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

West Orange-Stark didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-11 draw against Kelly Catholic on the 21st. As for Beaumont United, they will head out on the road to challenge Nederland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
