Baseball Game Preview: Montbello Warriors vs. Skyline Falcons

The Montbello Warriors will face off against the Skyline Falcons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Montbello is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

On Friday, Montbello came up short against Denver East and fell 9-5.

Saul Renteria-Aguirre was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Alvidrez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Skyline, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Mead on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jack Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Skyline is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Skyline saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JD Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. John Haley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Montbello's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Skyline, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Montbello has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Skyline struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
