Baseball Game Preview: Godby Cougars vs. Rickards Raiders

The Godby Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Rickards Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Godby is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Godby will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Gadsden County on Friday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 33-5 margin over the Jaguars. The Cougars have beaten the Jaguars the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Jaguars has come to flipping the script.

Tytus Evans made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs but no hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season.

Godby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .822. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2025.

Meanwhile, Rickards came up short against Maclay on Monday, falling 15-3. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Marauders recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Rickards' defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Godby, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Godby suffered a grim 29-8 defeat to Rickards in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
