Baseball Recap: Trinitas Christian Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central Christian, Trinitas Christian was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Gulf Pointe Latin Gladiators 20-3. With that win, Trinitas Christian brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Chase Petersen was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jonathan Rook and Landon Varela did most of the damage at the plate: Rook went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Varela scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those five RBI gave Rook a new career-high. Jon A Sampson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Trinitas Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Trinitas Christian's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trinitas Christian will head out to take on Central Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, they will venture away from home to square off against West Florida Baptist Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
