Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Excel Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 57-26 loss at the hands of the Heritage Christian Academy Lions. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1397th, while the Lions are ranked 449th).

When it comes to explaining why Excel Christian Academy lost, don't look at Nayah Guillory. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points.

Addelynn Reid was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds for Heritage Christian Academy. With that strong performance, Reid is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Kara Day, who put up 11 points and five steals.

Excel Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Heritage Christian Academy, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Excel Christian Academy has already played their next matchup (against Christian Home Educators), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Heritage Christian Academy will venture away from home to square off against Community Christian on Thursday. Heritage Christian Academy's defense has only allowed 19.7 points per game this season, so Community Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them.
