Baseball Recap: Lutheran Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sunrise Mountain

Lutheran scored the most runs they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 17-13 to the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs.

Barrett Grimes and Anthony Misch stepped up to the plate in a big way. Grimes scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Misch scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Christopher Delcambre was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

Even though they lost, Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Sunrise Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lutheran will challenge Santa Fe South at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Lutheran's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Santa Fe South has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. As for Sunrise Mountain, they will take on Chaparral in a tournament on Wednesday.
