Softball Recap: Kentwood Takes a Loss

Kentwood had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-12 to make it five. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kentridge Chargers. The Conquerors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 1-0.

Kentwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Mottern Salinas, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Mottern Salinas is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for Kentridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Kentridge's side, not much got past Jozi Thompson, who gave up just two hits and racked up 19 Ks to keep Kentwood off the board. Those 19 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Thompson.

On the hitting side, Genesis Miller was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Alissa Andrews also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kentwood will host Auburn at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.78 runs per game on average), something the Conquerors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Kentridge, they will square off against Stadium at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
