Basketball Game Preview: Edison Vikings vs. Laguna Creek Cardinals

The Edison Vikings will face off against the Laguna Creek Cardinals at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Laguna Creek will be up against a hot Edison team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Edison walked away with a 62-54 victory over Pleasant Valley on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Laguna Creek was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 69-63 to Cosumnes Oaks. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Wolfpack: they've now lost four in a row.

Edison will have to keep a close watch on Jordan Boyce and Jaylan Virgil, a pair of players who had a big impact on Laguna Creek's prior game. Boyce went 8 for 16 en route to 23 points and eight boards, while Virgil posted 23 points and six rebounds. That was a full 36.5% of Laguna Creek's points, marking the third time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Koa Jones, who earned four points and five steals.

Laguna Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Edison, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.
