Baseball Recap: Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons Comes Up Short

Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They lost 10-3 to the Cleveland Clippers. If Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons was looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to Cleveland when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Cleveland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For Cleveland's part, Brennan Kortuem was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Kortuem has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miles Tomaszewski, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Braeden Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons will head out to square off against Schaeffer Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cleveland, they will venture away from home to take on Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
