Bangor hasn't had much luck against Mendon recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Vikings will square off against the Hornets at 10:00 a.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bangor took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Eau Claire. The win was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Mendon gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Eau Claire as they made off with a 12-1 victory.
Mike Curiel made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Cam Bingaman looked comfortable as he got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Phoenix Dunson and Jerry Batten did most of the damage at the plate: Dunson got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Batten went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Dunson also got a hit, marking his first of the season.
Mendon is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bangor, their record now sits at 13-15.
Bangor might still be hurting after the 18-1 defeat they got from Mendon in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
