Banning hasn't had much luck against Carson recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pilots will look to defend their home field against the Colts at 3:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Banning will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Rancho Dominguez on Thursday. The Pilots put the hurt on the Lobos with a sharp 18-3 victory.
Kourtney Talanoa was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Joliene Pina was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one double.
Banning hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 9-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Carson got themselves on the board against Narbonne on Thursday, but Narbonne never followed suit. They blew past the Gauchos 10-0. The win was familiar territory for the Colts, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Isabella Campos looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Carson got a massive performance out of Atiana Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ruby Grajeda, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Banning now has a winning record of 13-12-1. As for Carson, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Banning has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Carson struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Banning might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Carson in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Pilots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
