Baseball Game Preview: Belchertown Orioles vs. Northampton Blue Devils

For the first time this season, Belchertown will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to take on the Northampton Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Belchertown has ten straight wins, Northampton has 14 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Belchertown came out on top against Holyoke on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Orioles walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Purple Knights.

Thatcher Rudnik was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Belchertown: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Josh Misiaszek was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Northampton came up short against East Longmeadow on Tuesday and fell 14-9.

Belchertown pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Northampton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.

Everything went Belchertown's way against Northampton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Belchertown made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Orioles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
