Baseball Game Preview: San Marcos Knights vs. Poway Titans

For the second straight game, San Marcos will face off against Poway. The Knights will host the Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. San Marcos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Poway's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

San Marcos is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Poway 17-1 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

San Marcos got a great performance from Brody Layne as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Layne has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Max Farrell was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Walker, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

San Marcos lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

San Marcos' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Poway, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
