Softball Game Preview: Concordia Fighting Orioles vs. Sweet Springs/Malta Bend

The Concordia Fighting Orioles will venture away from home to challenge Sweet Springs/Malta Bend at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Concordia's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last eight matchups.

If Concordia beats Sweet Springs/Malta Bend with 12 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Fighting Orioles blew past Kingsville 12-0 on Monday. Considering the Fighting Orioles have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Emily Wilkens, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Roepe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Concordia hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Sweet Springs/Malta Bend unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Mt. Vernon back in March, falling 13-4.

Concordia pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Sweet Springs/Malta Bend, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
