Soccer Game Preview: Jacksonville vs. Glenwood

Jacksonville hasn't had much luck against Glenwood recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Crimsons will square off against the Titans at 4:30 p.m. Jacksonville has given up an average of 3.4 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Jacksonville's offense. They came up short against Springfield last Tuesday, falling 7-0. While losing is never fun, Jacksonville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Springfield are ranked 17th).

Meanwhile, Glenwood waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their defense stepped up to hand the Railsplitters a 9-0 shutout. Glenwood's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three contests.

Glenwood pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 25 goals over those four games. As for Jacksonville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4-1.

Jacksonville might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Glenwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Crimsons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
