Recap: Blue River Valley Vikings vs. Union City Indians
The Blue River Valley Vikings and the Union City Indians squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Blue River Valley Vikings had to settle for second. They fell to the Indians 45-39. Blue River Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Union City apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Blue River Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maciah Driskill. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Driskill has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlee Gibson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Blue River Valley were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Union City only racked up five assists.
It was another big night for Luane Schoonbroodt, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five steals for Union City. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Schoonbroodt has scored at least a third of Union City's points. Camryn Fischer was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Blue River Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season. As for Union City, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.
Blue River Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Union City, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tri at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Tripresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Union City in Indiana (Tri is ranked 121st, while Union City is ranked 245th).
