Baseball Recap: Elmira Find Success

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Elmira and Maine-Endwell meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Express narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Spartans 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Express have posted against the Spartans since May 5, 2016.

Aedan Palmer was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Elmira is 3-1 when Palmer allows three or fewer hits, but 3-7 otherwise. Palmer was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

Palmer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Cavalier, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Elmira's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Maine-Endwell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6.

Elmira does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Maine-Endwell has already played their next contest (against Southside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
