Basketball Game Preview: Cibola Cougars vs. Volcano Vista Hawks

Cibola is 0-10 against Volcano Vista since February of 2020 but things could change on Thursday. The Cibola Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Volcano Vista Hawks at 7:00 p.m.

Cibola is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They took a blow against Farmington, falling 67-28. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Scorpions are ranked sixth).

Meanwhile, Volcano Vista posted their closest win since January 24th on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Cleveland 42-39.

Cibola better focus on containing Jalysa Hines and Adriana Zavala as the pair were huge in Volcano Vista's win. Hines posted 16 points and six steals, while Zavala scored 13 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The game was Hines' third in a row with at least 16 points.

Volcano Vista is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points over those games. As for Cibola, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16.
