Basketball Recap: Dunbar Takes a Loss

After soaring to 58 points the game before, Dunbar was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Gateway Eagles and fell 63-22. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 388th, while the Eagles are ranked 123rd).

Destinee Salinas was Dunbar's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Addision Fuhr held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gateway to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kenyah Moss, who posted 11 points in addition to eight steals and six assists. With that strong performance, Moss is now averaging an impressive 3 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Thatiyana Holiday, who went 6 of 8 en route to 16 points and six steals.

Dunbar's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-5. As for Gateway, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

Dunbar and Fort Myers will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Gateway, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-2 victory against Riverdale on the 13th.
