Baseball Game Preview: St. Mary Gaels vs. St. Joseph Regional Green Knights

St. Mary is 1-7 against St. Joseph Regional since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Gaels will head out on the road to challenge the Green Knights at 4:30 p.m. St. Mary's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so St. Joseph Regional's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

St. Mary took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Rutherford 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Gaels in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

St. Joseph Regional came out on top against Tenafly on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Green Knights' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Green Knights have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Andrew Coyle looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Brady Shust was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Devin Buntzen was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

St. Joseph Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April.

St. Joseph Regional is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for St. Mary, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-10.

St. Mary came up short against St. Joseph Regional in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Gaels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
