Recap: Okeene Whippets vs. Covington-Douglas Wildcats
On Thursday, The Okeene Whippets faced the Covington-Douglas Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Okeene fell just short of Covington-Douglas by a score of 46-44. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
When it comes to explaining why Okeene lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Swartwood. Despite the final result, he rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry.
Ford Smith had an outrageously good game for Covington-Douglas as he rushed for 251 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 165 yards and a touchdown. Smith was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. Miguel Tarango also helped out with an impressive 82 receiving yards.
Okeene's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Covington-Douglas, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Okeene will be playing at home against Cyril at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. One thing working in Cyril's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games. As for Covington-Douglas, they will head out on the road to face off against Velma-Alma at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Velma-Alma is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
