Weldon Valley had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their matchup on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 51-8 win over the Hi-Plains Patriots. The victory was some much needed relief for the Warriors as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Weldon Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2023.
Weldon Valley wouldn't let Hi-Plains keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Weldon Valley can thank Blake Davis and Zander Braun for forcing both of them. Braun also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble, making five total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending a pass.
Despite the defeat, Hi-Plains saw an underclassman step up: Jayden Hile rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weldon Valley will challenge Briggsdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hi-Plains, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Otis at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hi-Plains will come in still looking for their first win of the season.
