Baseball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Vikings vs. Derry Trojans

Mt. Pleasant proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Derry Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted against the Trojans since April 25, 2019.

Cole Chatfield made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Levi Hixon and Dane Firmstone did most of the damage at the plate: Hixon got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, while Firmstone went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Firmstone hit this season. Another player making a difference was Quinn Painter, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
