Baseball Recap: Richland Gets the Win

While Richland's win against Keller Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Richland Royals narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Keller Central Chargers 6-4. The win continues a trend for the Royals in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won three in a row.

Henry Pierce looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has become a key player for Richland: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carter Alderson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Richland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Max Wiley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Richland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive games.

Richland's record now sits at 4-5. As for Keller Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Coming up, Richland will square off against Fossil Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fossil Ridge's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Richland's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Keller Central, they will be taking part in a tournament against Weatherford at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
