Basketball Recap: Amherst Extends Road Winning Streak to Nine

Amherst posted their closest win since January 2, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past the Ansley/Litchfield Spartans 42-39. The Broncos have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Spartans, too.

Amherst's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braylon Russell led the charge by putting up 11 points. Another player making a difference was Brayden Peterson, who posted 12 points.

Despite the loss, Ansley/Litchfield still got an impressive performance from Luke Bailey, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 38.5% of Ansley/Litchfield's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Owen Cunningham was another key player, scoring seven points and five assists.

Amherst's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.2 points per game. As for Ansley/Litchfield, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-6.
