Softball Recap: Geneva Comes Up Short

Geneva had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the Madison Blue Streaks by a score of 7-6. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 9-3 to the Blue Streaks when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Caidyn Siegel was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Siegel wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Annabelle Bragg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Madison, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Madison's side, Kara Mekulsia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Addy Behm was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Natalie Best was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Geneva didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-3 victory against Berkshire on the 22nd. As for Madison, they have also already played their next contest, a 5-1 win against Wickliffe on the 18th.
