Softball Recap: Brookside Gets the Win

Brookside's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Firelands Falcons 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Markie-Ann Aliff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.

At the plate, Trinity Arend was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Khloe Racz was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Brookside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Brookside has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Firelands, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Looking ahead, Brookside will welcome St. Joseph Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Firelands, they will head out to face off against Wellington at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dukes have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
