Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Blue Devils vs. York Dukes

The Wayne Blue Devils will face off against the York Dukes at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Wayne is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Wayne will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against St. Paul/Palmer on Thursday. The Blue Devils blew past the Wildcats 11-1. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Gavin Redden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Calvin Ankeny was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 13 contests. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Kneifl, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for York, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Platteview get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Dukes as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Like Wayne, York also got a great game from a two-way player: Thomas Bonde. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Bonde also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because York is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Bonde was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Wayne's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for York, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
