Baseball Recap: Michigan City Takes a Loss

Michigan City extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They lost 16-9 to the Morgan Township Cherokees. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cherokees apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Justice Randall and Keegan Cowgill did some serious damage despite the final result: Randall went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Cowgill went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Morgan Township, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10-1. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

On Morgan Township's side, Caleb Ksenak looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. The Cherokees are 2-1 when Ksenak allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-9-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Walters, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 matches. Matt Symer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Michigan City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-2 loss against La Porte on the 29th. As for Morgan Township, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 18-0 defeat against Boone Grove on the 28th.
