Softball Recap: Capital Cougars vs. Parkersburg Big Reds
Capital had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 7-23 to make it five. They lost 8-1 to the Parkersburg Big Reds. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Big Reds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.
Capital saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faithanna Hall, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Parkersburg, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-13. The result was nothing new for the Big Reds, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Parkersburg's side, Krista Durkin and Brynn Frye did most of the damage at the plate: Durkin went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Frye went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most doubles Durkin has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kendall Kimes, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Capital will head out to challenge PikeView at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Parkersburg, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 6-4 loss against Woodrow Wilson on the 11th.
