Watauga is 8-1 against South Caldwell since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pioneers will look to defend their home field against the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Watauga's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

On Friday, Watauga got the win against Freedom by a conclusive 42-20. Fans of the Pioneers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Watauga had a senior duo take command as Cade Keller rushed for 97 yards and one TD on only nine carries and Everett Gryder gained 171 total yards and two touchdowns. Keller got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 77 yards.

Watauga was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 179 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, South Caldwell lost to McDowell on the road by a 60-42 margin on Friday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

South Caldwell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gunner Ferrell and Tanner Barr. JP Smith was another major factor on D, making 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

South Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Watauga, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Watauga has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 246.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Caldwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 182.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Watauga against South Caldwell in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-17 victory. In that matchup, the Pioneers amassed a halftime lead of 49-11, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
