Baseball Recap: Athens Victorious

The Athens Red Hawks beat the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks 4-1 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Hawks.

Derek Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Athens saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Kennaugh, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Jack Bouren was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Athens' record now sits at 19-6. As for Bloomfield Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Athens will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Black Hawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
