Softball Recap: Sunnyslope's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

Sunnyslope had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 12-16 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Gila Ridge Hawks. The high-scoring effort was just what the Vikings needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Sam Hyde was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Benavidez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Sunnyslope kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 8-3 when they post 11 or more hits.

As for Gila Ridge, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 15-5 record. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this matchup were averaging 2.5 runs allowed.

On Gila Ridge's side, Makenzie Nacis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jayden Waymire, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Looking ahead, Sunnyslope will be playing at home against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. Gila Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
