Football Game Preview: Walkertown Wolfpack vs. Morehead Panthers

The Walkertown Wolfpack will venture away from home to take on the Morehead Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Walkertown is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Walkertown's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 30-0 win over Carver. Considering the Wolfpack have won six matchups by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walkertown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nasir Conrad, who rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown. Jacob McLaurin also helped with two TDs in total.

Walkertown didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of McLaurin and Brian Highsmith Jr. Highsmith Jr also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six. McLaurin got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Morehead faced off against Rockingham County on Friday. The Panthers were outmatched by the Cougars and fell 44-12. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost three in a row.

Walkertown's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Morehead, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Walkertown has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 412.2 total yards per game. It's a different story for Morehead, though, as they've been averaging only 143.1 total yards. Will Walkertown be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Panthers flip the script?

Walkertown took their win against Morehead when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 23-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolfpack since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
