Baseball Recap: Central of Clay County Gets the Win

While Central of Clay County's win against Ranburne wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Central of Clay County Volunteers had just enough and edged out the Ranburne Bulldogs 7-6 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Volunteers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Sam Harris looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Central of Clay County's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Boyd, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Kalvin Simmons was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

The victory got Central of Clay County back to even at 5-5. As for Ranburne, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central of Clay County will welcome Handley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ranburne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Haralson County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Haralson County knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Ranburne likes a good challenge.
