Basketball Recap: West Hempstead Rams vs. Wilton Warriors
West Hempstead unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Wilton Warriors by a score of 60-58 on Saturday.
Wilton had a senior duo take command as Ryan Luchetta went 10 for 24 on his way to 26 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals and Liam McKiernan went 7 for 12 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Luchetta has scored at least a third of Wilton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Totten, who posted two points and three blocks.
The win made it two in a row for Wilton and bumps their season record up to 2-1.
West Hempstead will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lawrence at 5:00 p.m. on February 6, 2025. As for Wilton, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. John the Baptist at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
