St. Joseph-Ogden dropped their record down to 19-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Monticello Sages by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Monticello, they pushed their record up to 19-5 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Monticello's part, Cassidee Stoffel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Stoffel has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Monticello secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Lucy Leatherwood, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

St. Joseph-Ogden and Monticello should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 93rd) will meet Mahomet-Seymour (ranked 317th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Monticello will face off against Sullivan at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (82 vs. 246).
