Basketball Recap: Cottonwood Classical Prep Coyotes vs. Sandia Prep Sundevils

If Cottonwood Classical Prep was feeling good fresh off their 59-26 takedown of Bosque last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cottonwood Classical Prep Coyotes took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sandia Prep Sundevils on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sundevils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-30 back in January.

Despite the loss, Cottonwood Classical Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryah Carlson posted seven points and eight steals. Carlson has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Bolden, who scored seven points.

Sandia Prep was led to victory by Madlyn Dopson and Taylor Calkins. Dopson went 10-for-19 on her way to 26 points and four steals, while Calkins earned 11 points and six steals. Cottonwood Classical Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 6-19. As for Sandia Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Cottonwood Classical Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-57 win against East Mountain on the 18th. As for Sandia Prep, they have also already played their next matchup, a 43-25 victory against Cuba on the 18th.
