Baseball Recap: Marshall Academy Snags 11th Win in Last 13 Games

Marshall Academy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 5-0 win over the St. Joseph Fighting Irish on Tuesday. Five seems to be a good number for the Patriots as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Gage Todd made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Collin Woods was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Mason Woods was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.

Marshall Academy has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Joseph, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Marshall Academy beat the Fighting Irish by a score of 19-2 later that day.
