Providence Day had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Friday. They snuck past the Cannon Cougars with a 63-57 win. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Cougars are ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sean Nix, who went 9 for 19 on his way to 24 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Nix's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Evan Ingram was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards.

Providence Day pushed their record up to 23-4 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.4 points per game. As for Cannon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Providence Day has already played their next match, a 46-37 win against Victory Christian Center on the 1st. As for Cannon, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Cannon Cougars challenge the Covenant Day Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Cannon's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
