Football Recap: Mercer County Takes a Loss

Mercer County lost against Newman Central Catholic back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Golden Eagles were beaten by the Comets 46-7. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Comets are ranked 148th).

Mercer County is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5. As for Newman Central Catholic, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mercer County will take on rival Rockridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Newman Central Catholic is set to square off against their familiar foe Riverdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
