Baseball Game Preview: Tamalpais Red Tailed Hawks vs. Redwood Giants

For the second straight game, Tamalpais will face off against Redwood. The Red Tailed Hawks will be playing at home against the Giants at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Tamalpais 3.3, Redwood 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Tamalpais hadn't beaten Redwood on the road since April 29, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Red Tailed Hawks walked away with a 6-3 win over the Giants. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Tailed Hawks.

Hank Ballard looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Will Gensler, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Tamalpais' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Redwood, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tamalpais has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Redwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts.
