After only one run in their last matchup, Shelton made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hamden on Monday. The Gaels were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Green Dragons. The Gaels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by nine runs or more this season.
Riley Breunig made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those hits marked the first that she has got this season.
In other batting news, Shelton got a massive performance out of Chayse DellaRocco, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most doubles DellaRocco has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Tori Silva, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs.
Shelton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory was the sixth in a row for Shelton, bringing their record up to 15-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Hamden, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
Coming up, Shelton will challenge North Haven at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gaels are facing the Nighthawks at the right time seeing as the Nighthawks are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Hamden, they will square off against New London at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
