Volleyball Recap: Aurora West College Prep Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lotus School For Excellence on Friday, Aurora West College Prep Academy came back down to earth. The Spartans came up short against the Ascent Classical Academy Guardians on Monday, falling 3-0. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Guardians when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The match finished with set scores of 25-7, 25-13, 25-6.

Alexa Hernandez paced Aurora West College Prep Academy's offense, picking up two kills. Hernandez got some help from Lizett Diaz and her four assists. Diaz was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Grace Gilmartin was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 11 digs. Esther Walker also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Aurora West College Prep Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Ascent Classical Academy, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Aurora West College Prep Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Loveland Classical on the 8th. As for Ascent Classical Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Elbert at 5:00 p.m. on the 21st.
